Hologram Hello Totem 101: Everything you need to know about handling your totem

Introduction

Hello! Welcome to Hologram Hello Totem 101. I’m sure you’re stoked to finally have your own holographic rave totem and can’t wait to personalize it and take it to your next event. But before we get into that whole process, there are some things you should know about handling your totem safely and effectively. In this guide I'll cover everything from totem safety basics to totem etiquette in order to ensure the best experience with this new technology!

Hello Tip #1 Never leave your totem unattended.

For your own safety, we urge you to never leave your totem unattended. The totem can fall over and cause harm to nearby people or damage the fan.

If you would like to display your totem but don't want to actively hold it, use the tripod to hold it up. It's extra useful if you want to hold something else in your hand (like a beer). Just make sure you keep your eyes on the totem to avoid it knocking over. It's preferred you keep at least one hand on the totem at all times, even when using a tripods. However, if you must, when using the tripod hands-free, make sure the totem is lowered to an appropriate level.

Make sure you know where your totem is at all times. It may be subject to theft or confiscation by the venue. As long as there are people around you, be aware of your totem’s whereabouts.

When storing your device at home or in public spaces after use (such as at a festival), make sure that you store it in a dry, cool space. A good storage space would be in the original box your Hello Totem arrived in. Make sure your Powerstick is in the collapsed position when storing. This will ensure the telescopic feature of the Powerstick stays functional!

Periodically check to make sure all of your totem's components are tightened

After assembling your totem, make sure everything is tightened properly. It's important that you don't overdo it and OVER-TIGHTEN. This could damage the threading or make it difficult for you to disassemble the totem at the end of the night.

The hologram fan and cover is most vulnerable to unscrewing and at risk of damage if dropped, especially from a tall heights. We recommend checking every 30 minutes - 1 hour to make sure your holographic fan is secured properly. Check more frequently if you're moving around a lot or dancing with the totem.

It's Water-RESISTANT not waterproof.

The totem is weatherproof and water-resistant (not waterproof), so it should not be left out in the pouring rain or submerged underwater. If moisture gets inside your totem's battery compartment, it can cause corrosion which will result in permanent damage and potential failure of the components inside the device which could result in injury—so please be careful!

For light rain or when it’s raining on and off, you may get away with using your Hologram Hello Totem. Although we don’t recommend using it in any windy or rainy weather, we have some recommendations if you are planning to use it during any of these conditions.

Hello Tip #2 Use Waterproof transparent dressing

Use waterproof transparent medical dressing (often sold as “Tegaderm”) which is available in most pharmacies or retail stores. Cover the hardware (black plastic portion) of the back of your fan. Make sure the wire and port is entirely covered and you form an air-tight seal.

Make sure your batteries are fully charged before events

To begin with, make sure that your batteries are fully charged before an event. You may think this is obvious but there are some people who neglect this important step and they often forget that batteries lose charge even when not in use.

If you're going to a 2 day event, make sure to charge the batteries prior to going to bed. If you don't think you can remember this step, we recommend buying more batteries.

Hello Tip #3 The handgrip batteries double up as a portable charger!

Your totem doubles up as phone charger so don't forget about its other functions either!

If after charging, the holographic totem is unresponsive or not powering on, quickly plug in and out the USB-C port of the Powerstick wire to the battery a couple times until the totem turns on. You may have to attempt this multiple times. This builds up an electric charge which "jumpstarts" the battery.

If you still don't see any lights or graphics appear on your totem, charge them overnight to ensure they are fully charged before use. If this does not work, please contact us through email at support@hellototem.shop or direct message us on Instagram (@hellototem).

Hello Tip #4 Use low brightness to conserve battery

You can also use low brightness to conserve battery. Since the totem is always on and can be seen by others at all times, it is best to make sure that you do not use the high brightness setting for the entirety of events.

Low brightness actually captures better on camera (more vivid colors)!
